The Bebe Warren Scholars Program is a scholarship awarded to selected first-year students at PBA majoring in elementary education. This program encourages students to complete a student teaching semester abroad during their senior year.

For incoming freshman recipient: $2,500/First year; $5,000 in years 2, 3 and 4 if in good standing: including passing Candidacy, Professional Performance Review, Internship and remaining an elementary education major.

For students pursuing an Elementary Education degree at PBA, the Bebe Warren Scholars Program will offer scholarships to three qualified incoming freshmen and one qualified transfer student with an AA.

To be considered, applicants are required to pass the FTCE General Knowledge exam through Florida’s Department of Education and upload their test results in PBA’s scholarship application before the deadline.

Incoming students may inquire with the Financial Aid office for details on how to apply.

When Bebe Warren, a retired educator and wife of Palm Beach Atlantic University’s founding chairman, died in May of 2018, her legacy included dozens of PBA teachers whom she encouraged through her named scholarship.

Her husband, the late Dr. Donald E. Warren, established the Bebe Warren Scholarship fund in 2001 in partnership with the Theodore R. and Vivian M. Johnson Foundation. Each year, Mrs. Warren would visit with the elementary education majors who received a financial award to assist them during their semester of student teaching. She could relate to their desire to be in the classroom while still fulfilling their own course requirements. A graduate of Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C., Mrs. Warren taught elementary school in Anderson, Winston-Salem, N.C. and Durham, N.C., before leading a preschool teaching lab at Duke University in the mid-1950s. She left teaching to become a doctor’s wife, mother and active volunteer, including serving on the PTA at Northboro Elementary School in 1966.

Upon Mrs. Warren’s death at age 90, a gift from the Warren estate along with additional donations from friends and family members boosted the balance of the Bebe Warren Scholarship Fund. This endowment now provides Palm Beach Atlantic the opportunity to create a signature scholarship to support more students who aspire to be elementary school teachers.
